Lexytron – Blackmail

Manchester-born, London-based musician Lexytron is set to release her debut single titled ‘Blackmail‘ on the 9th November via Car Boot Records.

The single, which Lexytron describes as a ‘psychological crime thriller of a song’, is the first taster of her debut album ‘Something Blue‘.

The album, which is now all finished, was produced by Mike Grice from Manchester indie band City Reign, who also contributed his skills on guitar to the recording. The tracks, recorded between Oregon Studios and Universound Studios, were mixed and mastered by Marco Meloni.

There’s no set date for release as of yet but it will be sometime in the first half of 2019. Apparently we can expect another single or two from Lexytron in the meantime.

Speaking about ‘Something Blue’, Lexytron said: “The album plays around with different sounds and genres because I have some classical sensibilities having learned piano and violin growing up but rock n roll is where my head and heart is at.

“I think it’s a quirky little record that seems to be connecting with people and at the end of the day, that’s all I want: for them to find some emotion and meaning in what I have expressed.”

The new single Blackmail is a love song with dark overtones. Lexytron describes it as ‘the Devil’s take on a love song – sick, twisted and tempting with roaring riffs and psycho-bitch harmonies’. A pretty accurate summary and the song doesn’t fail to live up to it’s intriguing synopsis.

The lyrics describe a one-sided love (or obsession). Think Blondie’s ‘One Way Or Another’ or Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘I Will Possess Your Heart’ and you’re on the right track.

Blackmail even has an equally devilish video to match. The grainy monochromatic footage of a dancing devil is taken from the 1903 film The Cake-Walk Infernal by George Méliès. The French illusionist and film-maker made several short films starring the Satanic character in the early days of cinema.
