LIMF 2017 @ Sefton Park, Liverpool 22/07/17

LIMF 2017

Europe’s biggest free music festival continued to grow this weekend at Sefton Park in suburban Liverpool. This was my third Liverpool International Music Festival and I’ve seen it build on it’s success to make each year bigger and better.

You can read my reviews of 2015 and 2016 here.

LIMF started as a replacement for the city’s famous Mathew Street Festival which was scrapped by the council due to difficulties in policing the event in the city centre.

The line-up is always particularly impressive for a free festival with acts such as Labrinth, Katy B, Wretch 32, Sigma, Basement Jaxx and The Wombats featuring in recent years.

This year, Saturday was the big day with Fleur East, Fuse ODG, Naughty Boy, Jax Jones and Gorgon City all appearing on the main stage.

With numerous stages, a fair, a silent disco and dozens of street food vendors all in a beautiful park on a summer day, LIMF has something for everyone and is a great (and very affordable) day.

The penultimate act on Saturday’s line-up was DJ Jax Jones who returned to the festival after a short main stage set in 2015. Jax said: “I performed here a few years ago, and everyone was like ‘who is the guy jumping around the stage?’ But now everyone knows the songs. It’s a great crowd.”

The Sefton Park crowd danced and sung along to the hits such as recent single ‘You Don’t Know Me‘ which peaked at number 3 in the UK singles chart. He also slotted in a few remixes to get the crowd going such as ‘Seven Nation Army‘ and Gala’s ‘Freed From Desire‘.

Headliners Gorgon City were next up, playing a captivating set that featured the hits from their breakthrough 2014 album ‘Sirens‘. The duo’s touring vocalists brought fantastic energy to the headline set that could have been lacking without them. Josh Barry, who recently performed at Glastonbury for BBC Introducing, was particularly impressive.

Gorgon City brought a brilliant day of live music to a close with an explosion of rainbow coloured confetti and streamers. I’m already looking forward to next year.
