On Saturday, Two Door Cinema Club took to the stage of Manchester’s O2 Apollo for a second sold out night. The Northern Irish trio expressed their gratitude to the crowd for the massive turnout and revealed they weren’t sure if anyone would care about the comeback tour after a lengthy hiatus. But the band’s legacy clearly lives on with indie fans across the country and their recent album ‘Gameshow‘ will have won them a whole new generation of fans.
TDCC’s set was like a greatest hits playlist as the boys offered plenty for fans of 2010 and 2012 LPs ‘Tourist History‘ and ‘Beacon‘. With neon lights, strobe lights, streamers and confetti cannons, they definitely went big. A reflection on the bold disco-inspired music of Gameshow in comparison to the band’s understated indie pop of old.
Despite lively performances from guitarist Sam and bassist Kevin, it was frontman Alex who was at the centre of attention. From, thrashing his guitar around like a rock god to straddling along the edge of the stage with an Alex Turner-esque arrogance and swagger.
The omission of indie anthem ‘What You Know‘ from the main set meant an encore was always going to happen. Before that, TDCC brought the vocalist of support band Anteros, Laura Hayden, back out to join them.
The night ending in a shower of confetti and the Irish indie heroes taking a bow and leaving three and a half thousand very happy customers.
