Alex and Ella moved to London in pursuit of a music career after being friends throughout their time at a Catholic school plagued by a ‘paedophile priest’. They got started in music by making drunken songs on Garageband after a few too many vodka and cherryades.
The dynamic duo, who adopted the name ‘Cherryade‘, are now doing big things with their brand of new-age pop. Citing the likes of Charli XCX, MIA and Danny L Harle as inspirations, the influence is clear. But it all makes sense when you see the producers they’ve worked with on recent material; Dimitri Tikovi (Charli XCX, MNEK), Ant Whiting (MIA), Ian Watt (Girli)…
The pair may have started their musical life on the internet following in the footsteps of the underground PC Music scene, but they have big ambitions. They dream of playing at the O2 and making the jump to alt-pop stardom like MIA and Charli XCX.
The latest release from Cherryade is ‘Get By‘. It’s not your typical pop tune, with PC Music-esque electronics and some… different… lyrical content (it’s about marrying someone’s rich granddad for his money and then throwing him down a canyon).
Get By is bold, brash and fantastically fun. It brings something new to rule-breaking pop. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the likes of Nylon, DIY and Clash Magazine, who were quick to heap praise on the pair since the release of early tracks ‘Fractured Fairytales‘ and ‘Houdini‘.
The video for Get By perfectly matches the track for it’s punky edge and unwavering confidence.
